Hello there, everybody!
How are you doing? I hope your day’s doing well! Here’s a weird post about a teacher and a very interesting book which I wanted to talk about.
The Teacher
So, among my summer classes, I decided to take ENGL 213, and I was very “lucky” to be in a certain teacher’s class for this particular reason: he is a very interesting individual (I’m not going to name him, but I mean, how many professors are there for these classes). While the subject (how to write essays and such) is pretty uninteresting, the teacher’s comments are sometimes hilarious.
If you get this particular teacher, my advice would be to follow exactly what he’s saying and I think you should be able to have a good grade (I had a… passable grade just by following his steps). He is a pretty hard marker, but… I mean, you have to understand it’s a step above ENGL 212, after all.
The Book
The content of what we had to write about in our essays was pretty interesting. It is based off of the book called: Honouring the Truth, Reconciling for the Future by the TRC (The Truth and Reconciliation Commission).
It is about how the Canadian Government and the various Churches have mistreated Indigenous people through the Residential Schools. If you don’t know what went on during those years, I really suggest you take a read. While apalling, the report opens your eyes to the fact that Canadians can do so much better to reconcile the First Nations with the Canadian population.
If you need to get the book without buying the book from the bookstores (because it’s costly), here’s a link to it from the official website. It’s in a PDF format, and it’s easier to go through the book and you can easily Ctrl+F (find) key words and such.
If you’ve read it, what did you think about it?
Did you ever get this particular class? What was your experience?
Have a great day!
