TESL 330: Netflix Party

March 19th, 2020

Hello there, everybody,
How are you? Because of COVID-19, we are all right now in self-isolation and because I don’t do well without something to do, I’ve decided to try my hand at scheduling posts a little bit more frequently within a month. This schedule hopefully will not be for too long; until the pandemic is being more under control and until I don’t have any more time to dedicate to writing this or if I run out of material (very soon)…

The context

Are you tired of watching Netflix with your friends and not being perfectly in sync with them? Or watching it but then having to switch onto whatever application/website you use to chat with your friends about what happens to the movie/show you’re watching? Especially in terms of social isolating ourselves properly, but still being social so we don’t lose our sanity, I’m gonna introduce you to Netflix Party.

What is it?

If all of your friends have a working Netflix account (yes, everyone needs a Netflix account), everyone can also have this Google Chrome extension which you can download here. Or here’s their official website.

If you are the host, you can:

  1. Go on your Netflix Account, click on a video you want to play, and then click on the red NP extension at the top right.
  2. Create a Room and find the link to distribute to your friends. Then, you can play whatever Netflix show or movie you want.

If you are a guest, you can log onto your Netflix Account and click on the link!

I tried it out with a few of my friends and at the moment, there are a few glitches, I was booted out of the room at some points, and when I clicked on the link again, we were never at the right pace anymore, making it a bit useless for me… we would have to restart a new NP room (Netflix Party), etc.

However, I thought this was still a very nice addition to your Google Chrome extensions, provided that they get enough Patreon backers to improve it a little bit going forward. Here is what it would look like!

All right,
That’s out of me right now.
I hope you’re doing well and that you’ve kept yourselves entertained during these hard times!
Be SAFE!!
PV
