TESL 330: Class Dojo

November 2019

Hello there everybody,
How are you? Oh! Also! It’s already the beginning of a new year? HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I’m doing all right, I hope. Internships are going to start soon and it’s… gonna be pretty stressful, but… whatever, it’s fine… right…? It’s fine…

As I explained in my very first TESL 330 post, my “Software” category for this blog is really reserved for websites or softwares that I’ve discovered and that I hope can help you and/or that I hope I can use in my profession.

Listen, I haven’t personally used this, but from what I have seen so far, ClassDojo is pretty cool. Educators and teachers used this website to give their students points that go towards a particular reward. I think it may have been made in the U.S.A.

It really helps students with the students’ behaviour and fosters a positive learning environment in the classroom. Teachers use this platform to reward their students for their good behaviour with points. Not only is it good way to show the students that they are working well and it can motivate students to continue to work well (maybe slowly moving them from extrinsic to intrinsic motivation?), but the parents can also be more active and know how well their children were doing.

It is such a nice website, because it is free for teachers. I think it’s great, because communication with parents from here seems very nice. However, we must be very careful, because you can’t be too available for parents either. What if they try to contact you while you are not on the job [a controversial topic in my university classroom right now. Not everyone thinks the same way, haha]?

That’s all out of me today,
I hope you have a great month!
Hope this helped somewhat. Have you already used this before? Tell me how it goes!
PV
