Hello there, everybody!
I hope you’re doing well, despite everything. I really hope that this year that you’re doing this particular class in does not feature similar (or worse) circumstances than we are currently going through.
Future readers, if you are reading this and you have no idea what I am talking about, GOOD. Be safe and keep washing your hands (I am talking about the COVID-19 pandemic)! If you feel sick in any way, I hope you won’t shirk away from using your masks.
Today’s post pertains to the course TESL 488, the seminar.
After going through it during the COVID-19 pandemic which occurred roughly between 2019-present, I wanted to give you a few pointers in case you wanted to take the summer time to get your stuff ready for this particular class.
What you must know is that the instructor for this class will give you assignments that may seem related to the self-reflections you need to do for TESL486 and TESL487, but they are entirely different. I had to do some readings for this class, and I also needed to hand in some assignment. While it is impossible for me to predict what readings and what assignments you will be given, here are a few ideas of things you should think about now:
- Your strengths and your weaknesses;
- I know that you need to think about those already when you’re filling out your professional competency goals (?) with your university supervisor for TESL486 and TESL487, but this time, it’s different.
- Think about something you’d like to improve about your practice, and think about concrete ways you can improve upon them.
- Portfolio paragraphs
- I scheduled at least two blog posts (SPEAQ and QPAT) a long time ago about your professional portfolio. I strongly suggest that you have good and concise paragraphs connecting your choice to the professional competency, with an example of how it worked (or did not work) during your practice (TESL466, TESL467, TESL486, TESL487).
- If you already most of these paragraphs done, I believe that your internships will be a lot less stressful.
Good luck for everything!
Have a great day and see you next time,
PV
