Irregular Verbs Pixel Art

November 26th, 2020

Hiya, everybody?
I hope you’re doing well! Let’s see… 2022, which means 2 years from now… I really hope I have a job…? But more than that (probably), I’d like the world to be safer (especially in light of the pandemic that’s still very present in our lives – at least in mine at the moment, what with the second wave and the fact that people are not willing to isolate appropriately during the holiday season… but this is definitely not a blog dedicated for these kinds of rants, so please ignore me…).

The other day, while scrolling through a Facebook group, someone mentioned this particular kind of activity, and I must say that this is quite interesting, and I would love to share it here with you all.

What is it?

This is an activity where you get to colour in a picture based on the answer that is given. This clever activity uses spreadsheets and their conditional formatting and centers around irregular verbs.

Here are the links for each parts of the activity:

  1. Irregular Verbs 1-17 [link]
  2. Irregular Verbs 1-27 [link]
  3. Irregular Verbs 1-33 [link]
  4. List of grouped irregular verbs [link]
  5. Tutorial on how to create these [link]

Some thoughts/recommendations

This kind of activity should probably be done online for revision, at home or at the library or at some place where students can use the computer.

If you would want to do this as a group, in class, that might be a good idea to give the students the questions beforehand and let them fill it by themselves first, and then compare with their friends, and then as a bigger group, perhaps?

As explained in the video, you can even give them these in break-out rooms, to let them work together to complete the activity.

I want to say that elementary school students may be very intrested in this, and that if done carefully, high school students may also enjoy this! I say this because some students may already understand conditional formatting, which means that they may be able to go ahead and check the answers instead of answering by themselves.

In that case, why not flip it? Make the high school students create something like this and ask them to make it for younger students, or something!

I really hope you have a great time with these
I also hope that they’re as fun as I think they will be,
Have a great time!
