Professional Portfolio(?): AQUOPS

April 4th, 2023

Hello there, everybody,
How are you on this beautiful day of April in 2023? Today, I am NOT at work, as I am supposed to. Well, I took 3 days “off” to attend to a conference called AQUOPS. Let me tell you so many things about it today.

Let me tell you about it all:

What is it?

It is a conference for teachers in Quebec who want to integrate technology into their teaching. AQUOPS stands for: Association Québécoise des Utilisateurs d’Outils technologiques à des fins Pédagogiques et Sociales. As you can expect, this is a conference mostly done in French, but you’d be surprised how many English teachers there are attending this event! In my first workshop, which had 40 participants, there were around 8-10 English teachers?! That is pretty cool for a non-SPEAQ conference, I think.

Why do you need it?

If you are working in the province of Quebec with your brevet d’enseignement, as I am, you technically need to keep developing yourself as a teacher. This is “Competency 11: To engage in professional development individually and with others.” To do this, you are encouraged to go to teacher conferences (SPEAQ is one of them for us TESL teachers) or participate to some workshops offered by the school board and other.

Not only this, but you need to think about Teacher Competency 5: “To integrate information and communications technologies (ICT) in the preparation and delivery of teaching/learning activities and for instructional management and professional development purposes.” Integration of ICTs in our teaching is really going to help our students navigate the new reality that we never had to wade through.

All right, that’s all from me today,
I need to go and finish coding my game for the end of my workshop!
You can of course expect me to talk about AQUOPS a lot in these next few months, hahaha
Miss PV
