Brain Breaks

August 1st, 2023

Hey there everybody,
I haven’t been active AT ALL since summer started, and while I feel bad about it, I don’t feel that bad about it, I guess? Am I a horrible blogger or what…

Anyways, I wanted to share with you something that might be obsolete by the time I share this with you. It might be something you’ve already heard of, but I’m going to remind you that this blog is to remind me of what I found out and may forget. I have horrible memory.

What are brain breaks?

Collage of screenshots of videos for 21 Fifth Grade Brain Breaks To Energize Your ClassroomYounger students (about elementary school age) – but I’m also going to say: more and more, even the older students need this? (I’m saying this also as a university student; our professors also give us a few breaks in-between time of constantly paying attention. We used to get up and stretch our legs, or just eat a snack) – need to take some breaks. We can’t expect them to give their 100% for the entirety of their stay in the classroom. What teachers have found are some nice brain break activities.

I found this particular website (link here from weareteachers.com) that shares a bunch of interesting video brain breaks such as Among Us themed ones, or workouts.

While that particular website is interesting for elementary school students, you might be like me at the time of writing this: a high school teacher, and you might wonder why this is interesting for you. Well, there are other kinds of brain breaks you can do (breathing exercises, according to this website (The OT Toolbox), or even Would You Rather activities or Freeze Dance (from EducationWorld)).

I’m not sure if I’d be able to do something like that all the time, but I’d really like to try next year.
All right, that was it from me.
Have a great rest of your summer,
Miss PV
