Hello everybody,
How’s it goin’? It’s me again, from AQUOPS. There are truly, truly so many new things that I don’t know about, it’s really amazing and I’m so happy because I can share with you all.
What is it?
I will be talking briefly about Sommet du Numérique (link). It is quite similar to what AQUOPS is, according to my current tablemate, who is an elementary math teacher here in Quebec. They are all about using technology in education and are sponsored by similar companies than AQUOPS, like GRICS, for example. This year (2023), when I am writing this, it is in May AND it is in Montreal, I can’t believe I didn’t know about this… I’m not sure if it is always so late in the school year, but this can always be very interesting.
As a student, it costs only 25$ with proof of being in a Quebec university. I think it’s best for you to start thinking about if you want to go or not before the month of November, as there is a special price for early birds.
Why is it important?
I’d invite you to go see my post about SPEAQ or about AQUOPS which explain a bit better why I believe you should consider going to conventions or congrès like these ones.
I think that I will be putting the expression Professional Portfolio (?): for every one of these kinds of posts. I think they will help you as a student in University, especially if your university requires you to go to a conference/congrès per year.
It’s not just important for you as a teacher to use the technologies (I also think it’s nice, because we could say that you’re keeping up with technologies!). The government of Education in Quebec (MELS) has been talking more and more about improving our students’ digital competency (at least in 2022-2023), which is perfectly understandable, given the constant presence of social media and internet in our students’ lives. Just like how school is a place where they can practice being a citizen of tomorrow, schools should technically also help them become digital citizens of tomorrow. This is a new thing, because it was not a thing when I was a student-teacher. I am not quite sure if it will have changed or if it will be no big deal for you once you see this post, but, just in case, please consider your students’ digital competency.
I’m gonna call it a post for now,
Have a great one and we will see each other next time,
Miss PV
