March 27th-31st, 2022
Hello everybody,
I hope this post finds you in a good mood.
— You can skip this Aside —
As you can see from this time stamp, this is my first writing in A WHILE. This is mostly because I have somehow gotten an actual contract as an ESL teacher, which is great, even though it brings me anxiety like never before…
Since before August 2021, I don’t sleep that well, and on top of that, I have a secondary job, which is equally as time consuming. This means that I have not had as much time to take care of this blog as I would have wanted. You know what it also means though, I might be able to be much better at this during the summer.
— End of Aside —
I think that’s enough of me moping around about how stressed out I am, let’s move on to the actual post!
What is it?
Basically, I’m recommending a show. It’s ABC’s Abbott Elementary. It stars honestly brilliant actors with great chemistry on screen and with believable anecdotes.
In this story, there is a kindergarten teacher, Barbara Howard (Sheryl Lee Ralph), who is very experienced and often portrayed as the “mother” of the group. There is a first grade substitute teacher, Gregory Eddie (Tyler James Williams), who is new to the profession. There are two second grade teachers, who are Janine Teagues (Quinta Brunson), a second year teacher full of optimism and who still needs to figure some things out, and Melissa Schemmenti (Lisa Ann Walter), an experienced teacher who is quite resourceful. Lastly, there is Jacob Hill (Chris Perfetti), a History teacher in the higher classes, who joined the teaching crew around the same time as Ms Teagues, together, they trauma-bonded and became friends. They are “supported” in their teaching by the custodian, Mr. Johnson (William Stanford Davis) and the principal, Ava Coleman (Janelle James).
Some of my thoughts about it:
So many anecdotes can be told with such an array of professionals working in the school, it is a great idea and is very well executed by the people involved, in my opinion, with the 11 episodes I’ve seen so far.
Where can you find it?
You can watch it:
